My attorney discovered that Evelyn had recorded one of my mother’s visits.
The recording was six years old.
My mother’s voice was unmistakable.
“You need to disappear.”
Evelyn’s voice trembled.
“Marcus loves me.”
“He thinks he does.”
“And the baby?”
“You’ll raise it somewhere else.”
“It’s his child.”
“That’s exactly why you need to leave.”
Then came the sentence that made my blood run cold.
“If Marcus discovers you have twins, he’ll choose you over this family.”
The recording ended.
I sat in silence.
My mother had deliberately erased six years of my life.
But the story still wasn’t finished.
Because my attorney found another name connected to the documents.
A lawyer.
Someone who had helped my mother create the agreement.
And that lawyer had been paid from one of my company’s accounts.
PART 9 — THE MONEY TRAIL
We followed the payments.
Six years of transfers.
Thousands of dollars.
Hotels.
Apartments.
Private investigators.
Legal fees.
And finally, monthly payments to a private school where Lily and Grace had attended preschool.
My mother had been secretly monitoring them.
She knew where they lived.
She knew where they went to school.
She knew their birthdays.
She even had photographs of them.
But why?
My attorney discovered the answer in an old email.
My mother had been planning to eventually bring the girls into the Vance family.
But only under her control.
She didn’t want Evelyn.
She wanted the children.
And she wanted me to believe I had never had them.
PART 10 — THE SECOND SECRET
Then we discovered something even more shocking.
The legal document carrying my forged signature wasn’t the only document.
There was another.
A trust agreement.
My late father’s estate had established a fund for my future children.
My mother had known about it.
The trust was worth nearly $12 million.
But there was a condition.
The children’s biological mother had to remain their legal guardian until they reached adulthood.
My mother couldn’t access the money.
Unless Evelyn disappeared.
That was the motive.
It had never been about protecting me.
It had been about controlling my children’s inheritance.
I felt physically sick.
For six years, my daughters had been living a completely ordinary life while millions of dollars sat untouched in an account nobody had told them existed.
