Yellow or dull-looking nails can make your hands and feet look less healthy, especially when the discoloration comes from nail polish, dirt, or surface buildup. Fortunately, you can try a simple at-home nail-care treatment using baking soda and water to gently clean and smooth the surface.
This treatment is mainly for surface stains and buildup. It will not treat a fungal nail infection or other underlying nail conditions.
What You’ll Need
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- A few drops of clean water
- A small bowl
- A soft nail brush or very soft toothbrush
- Cotton pad or clean cloth
- Hand or foot moisturizer
- Clean towel
Step 1: Clean Your Nails
Start by washing your hands or feet with warm water and mild soap.
Use the soft nail brush to gently clean around and underneath the nails. Don’t scrape aggressively, because excessive cleaning can damage the nail surface and surrounding skin.
Pat everything dry with a clean towel.
Step 2: Make the Baking Soda Paste
