My Father-in-Law Tried to Force His “100-Year Tradition” on Our Wedding Night—But He Had No Idea I Was Livestreaming Everything

  • by

“Tell her,” Richard ordered.

Ethan remained silent.

Richard stepped closer.

“Tell your wife what happens to every woman who marries into this family.”

I felt my heartbeat accelerate.

“Ethan?”

He lowered his head.

“My grandfather created certain rules for the family. Dad believes we must follow them to preserve the Whitmore bloodline.”

“Rules about what?”

Ethan swallowed.

“About heirs. About inheritance. About who controls the family fortune.”

I stared at him.

“What does that have to do with me?”

Richard answered instead.

“Everything. Our family trust is structured around the continuation of the Whitmore name. The next generation must follow the conditions established by the founder.”

“That still doesn’t explain why you came into our bedroom tonight.”

Richard’s expression remained hard.

“Because the first night is when a bride demonstrates whether she understands her responsibilities.”

I shook my head.

“No. You don’t get to redefine my responsibilities without my consent.”

Richard laughed bitterly.

“You think you can enter a family worth hundreds of millions of dollars and simply do whatever you please?”

“I think I can enter a marriage and still be treated like a human being.”

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then Ethan finally looked at me.

“Isabella, there’s something else.”

I waited.

“Before the wedding, Dad made me sign an agreement.”

“What agreement?”

He rubbed his forehead.

“It concerns the family inheritance. If I fail to produce an heir within the period specified in the trust, control of my shares could pass to my cousin, Marcus.”

Richard interrupted.

“Not just his shares. The controlling interest in the entire family company.”

I slowly understood why they were so desperate.

The Whitmore fortune wasn’t merely a collection of businesses. Its ownership was tied to a complicated inheritance arrangement.

Richard believed that my marriage to Ethan was his opportunity to secure the next generation.

But I still couldn’t understand why they had chosen to confront me this way.

“Then why didn’t you tell me any of this before we got married?” I asked Ethan.

He looked ashamed.

“Because I knew you would question it.”

“Of course I would!”

My voice echoed through the room.

“You let me believe I was marrying a man who could make his own decisions. Instead, you brought me into a situation where your father expects to control my life.”

Ethan stepped toward me.

“I love you.”

I took a step back.

“Love isn’t asking someone to surrender their boundaries because you’re afraid of your father.”

His face crumpled.

For a moment, I almost felt sorry for him.

Then I remembered the way he had whispered, Just obey him, babe.

He hadn’t been confused.

He had made a choice.

And I was finally making mine.

I placed the envelope on the table and picked up my phone.

Richard watched me suspiciously.

“What are you doing?”

I looked directly at him.

“Making sure nobody can pretend this conversation never happened.”

Then I revealed the truth that neither man had anticipated.

“There’s a camera in this room.”

Richard went completely still.

Ethan stared at me.

“What?”

I pointed toward the small black device beneath the bedside table.

“It’s connected to a system I installed before the wedding.”

That wasn’t entirely true.

The device was part of a temporary security arrangement I had set up after noticing suspicious activity in the suite earlier that evening. The camera had been installed legally, with appropriate notice for the recording area, and its live feed was being monitored by a trusted security professional.

But the most important part was this:

I had not entered the room planning to expose my husband’s family.

I had simply wanted to protect myself if something went wrong.

And now something had.

I looked at Richard.

“Everything you’ve said tonight has been recorded.”

His face turned crimson.

“You wouldn’t dare release that footage.”

I held his gaze.

“You should have thought about that before you entered my bedroom and refused to respect my answer.”

Then I noticed Ethan staring at the device with an expression I had never seen before.

It wasn’t anger.

It was terror.

Because he knew something about the family trust that I had not yet discovered.

And the recording might reveal more than Richard’s behavior.

It might reveal the reason Ethan had agreed to marry me in the first place.

Part 4: The Livestream Nobody Expected

At 3:07 a.m., my phone vibrated.

A message appeared from my security contact.

LIVE FEED CONFIRMED. BACKUP RECORDING SECURED.

I took a slow breath.

Richard noticed the message.

“Turn that off.”

“No.”

“I am telling you to turn it off!”

“And I am telling you that you have no authority over my phone.”

He stepped toward me.

Ethan immediately grabbed his father’s arm.

“Stop, Dad.”

Richard spun around.

“Now you decide to speak?”

Ethan looked between us, visibly shaken.

For the first time that night, he seemed to understand that his attempts to keep everyone happy had only made the situation worse.

I opened the message thread on my phone.

The camera feed was being securely monitored, and a copy of the relevant footage had already been preserved.

I had also arranged for my attorney to receive the recording if I requested assistance.

There was no reason for me to threaten anyone with public humiliation.

The evidence could be handled through appropriate legal channels.

But Richard didn’t know that.

He believed I had already sent the footage to every guest at our wedding.

“How many people have seen it?” he demanded.

I met his eyes.

“Enough people to make sure the truth cannot be quietly erased.”

He reached for my phone.

I immediately moved away.

“Touch me again, and security will come upstairs.”

Richard stopped.

For several seconds, the only sound in the room was the hum of the air conditioner.

Then he began laughing.

It was a cold, humorless sound.

“You have no idea what you’ve done. You think a recording will destroy the Whitmores?”

“No,” I answered. “Your own choices may do that.”

He turned toward Ethan.

“Get your wife under control.”

Ethan didn’t move.

Richard’s face darkened.

“I said, get her under control!”

Ethan finally spoke.

“She’s not a possession, Dad.”

The words were quiet, but they changed the atmosphere in the room.

Richard stared at his son as though he had just betrayed him.

I watched Ethan carefully.

Part of me wanted to believe this was the beginning of a real change.

But words were easy.

What mattered was what he would do next.

Richard grabbed his pillow and marched toward the door.

“This family will remember tonight.”

I answered calmly.

“So will I.”

He stopped at the threshold.

Then he turned back and delivered one final warning.

“If you expose our private affairs, you will lose everything.”

I glanced at my wedding ring.

“Then perhaps I have nothing worth keeping.”

Richard slammed the door behind him.

For the first time that night, Ethan and I were alone.

He approached me slowly.

“Isabella, please. Let me explain.”

I looked at the man I had married only hours earlier.

“Start with the truth.”

He sat down heavily on the edge of the bed.

And then he told me something that made the entire night look different.
