1. Prepare the chicken
Remove the chicken from its packaging and take out the giblets if they’re inside.
Pat the entire chicken very dry with paper towels. This is important for getting crispy skin.
2. Make the seasoning
In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper if using.
Mix well.
3. Season the chicken
Rub the olive oil and melted butter all over the chicken.
Sprinkle the seasoning generously over the entire bird, including the breast, thighs, legs, and wings.
For even more flavor, gently loosen the skin over the breast and rub a little seasoning underneath.
4. Add aromatics
If desired, place the lemon, garlic cloves, and fresh herbs inside the chicken cavity.
Don’t pack the cavity tightly.
5. Preheat the air fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for about 3–5 minutes, following your air fryer’s instructions.
Make sure the chicken fits comfortably inside the basket with enough room for air to circulate.
6. Place the chicken in the basket
Place the chicken breast-side down in the air fryer basket.
Cook at 360°F (180°C) for 30 minutes.
7. Flip the chicken
Carefully turn the chicken over so the breast side is facing up.
Continue cooking for another 25–35 minutes, depending on the size of your chicken.
8. Check the temperature
The chicken is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the breast and thigh reaches at least 165°F (74°C).
Avoid touching the bone with the thermometer.
9. Rest the chicken
Carefully remove the chicken from the air fryer and place it on a cutting board.
Let it rest for 10–15 minutes before carving.
This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
10. Carve and serve
Carve the chicken into breasts, thighs, wings, and drumsticks.
Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
