1. Japanese-Style Fried Jumbo Shrimp 🍤

Crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, these golden fried shrimp are perfect with lemon wedges and a creamy dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails on
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1½ cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Prepare the coating: Place the flour in one shallow bowl. Beat the eggs with the milk in a second bowl. Pour the panko breadcrumbs into a third bowl.
  3. Coat the shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, then press it into the panko breadcrumbs until completely coated.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour enough vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan to submerge the shrimp. Heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry until golden: Fry the shrimp in small batches for approximately 2–4 minutes, depending on their size, until golden and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  6. Drain: Transfer the shrimp to a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels.
  7. Serve: Enjoy immediately with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or your favorite creamy dipping sauce.

Tip: Panko breadcrumbs help create an especially light and crunchy coating.

2. Buttery Garlic Jumbo Shrimp 🍋🧄

Juicy jumbo shrimp cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce with fresh lemon juice and parsley. This quick recipe is perfect with steamed rice or crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon slices, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry and season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. Heat the pan: Warm the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for approximately 1–2 minutes per side, until pink, opaque, and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
  4. Make the garlic butter: Reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the remaining butter and minced garlic. Cook for about 30–60 seconds, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
  5. Add lemon: Stir in the lemon juice and half the chopped parsley.
  6. Combine: Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss gently in the garlic butter sauce for about 30 seconds.
