For as long as Matt and Josh could remember, they had shared almost everything.
They were twins, born only minutes apart, but their bond went far beyond being brothers.
They played together.
They went to school together.
They laughed at the same jokes, dreamed about the same adventures, and somehow always seemed to know what the other was thinking.
But there was one dream that stood above all the others.
They wanted to fly.
Neither of them could remember exactly when the dream began.
Perhaps it was the first time they watched an airplane disappear into the clouds.
Perhaps it was the first time their parents took them to an airport and they stood behind the glass, staring at the enormous aircraft preparing for takeoff.
Or perhaps it was simply because, from an early age, both boys loved looking toward the sky.
Whenever an airplane passed overhead, Matt and Josh would stop whatever they were doing.
“One day, that’s going to be us,” Matt would say.
Josh would smile.
“Both of us.”
And they always made the same promise.
If one became a pilot, the other would too.
Step 1: The Dream Begins
As children, Matt and Josh turned their fascination with airplanes into a game.
They would sit together and pretend they were flying across the world.
One would act as the captain.
The other would become the co-pilot.
They would make announcements, pretend to communicate with air traffic control, and even argue playfully about who was responsible for landing the imaginary plane.
Their parents often watched from the doorway, smiling.
The boys didn’t know it at the time, but those childish games were slowly becoming something much bigger.
They were learning to dream.
And, more importantly, they were learning to dream together.
Step 2: The First Time They Sat in a Cockpit
Years later, they finally got the opportunity they had dreamed about.
They stepped inside a real aircraft cockpit.
For a moment, neither brother said anything.
There were instruments everywhere.
Screens.
Switches.
Controls.
Levers.
Buttons.
It looked completely different from the simple cockpit they had imagined as children.
Matt looked at Josh.
Josh looked back at him.
They both smiled.
It was one of those moments neither would ever forget.
The two boys who had spent years pretending to fly were suddenly sitting inside a real aircraft.
They reached toward the controls, fascinated by everything around them.
And somewhere in that moment, their childhood dream stopped feeling impossible.
It felt real.
Step 3: Turning a Dream Into a Goal
Dreaming was easy.
Becoming pilots was not.
The brothers knew they had a long road ahead.
They would have to study.
They would have to train.
They would have to learn about aviation, navigation, weather, aircraft systems, safety procedures, communication, and countless other things.
There would be difficult exams.
Long training days.
Early mornings.
Late nights.
Moments of frustration.
And times when the dream would feel much harder than they had imagined as children.
But they had one advantage.
They weren’t walking the road alone.
When Matt struggled, Josh encouraged him.
When Josh became exhausted, Matt reminded him why they had started.
They studied together.
They practiced together.
They challenged each other.
And whenever one of them wanted to give up, the other would say the words they had heard since childhood:
“Remember our dream.”
Step 4: The Hardest Days
There were days when becoming pilots seemed almost overwhelming.
The amount of knowledge they had to master was enormous.
They couldn’t simply love airplanes.
They had to understand them.
Every lesson mattered.
Every mistake became something to learn from.
Every successful training flight brought them one step closer.
There were moments when they wondered whether they would really make it.
But every time they looked at each other, they remembered the two little boys who once sat together pretending to fly.
Those boys hadn’t been afraid of the sky.
So they refused to be afraid of the work required to reach it.
