Garlic, oregano, and cinnamon are three familiar ingredients that have been used in traditional cooking and home remedies for generations. Each has a distinctive flavor and contains natural compounds that have attracted scientific interest.
Garlic is known for its sulfur-containing compounds, oregano contains aromatic compounds such as carvacrol and thymol, and cinnamon provides a warm, fragrant flavor. Together, these ingredients can be used to prepare a simple homemade infusion.
Although these ingredients may contribute to a balanced diet, this mixture has not been proven to cure fatty liver disease, eliminate parasites, treat arthritis or cancer, reverse obesity, or replace medication for high blood pressure.
Ingredients
- 3 fresh garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 2 cups (500 ml) drinking water
- 1 teaspoon honey, optional
- A small slice of fresh ginger, optional
Equipment
- A small saucepan
- A knife and cutting board
- A fine-mesh strainer
- A heat-resistant cup
- A spoon for stirring
Step 1: Prepare the Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and crush them gently with the flat side of a knife.
Crushing garlic helps release compounds that develop when its cells are broken apart.
Set the crushed garlic aside while you prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2: Prepare the Cinnamon and Oregano
Place the cinnamon stick and dried oregano on a clean plate.
If you are using fresh ginger, wash it thoroughly, peel it if desired, and slice it thinly.
These ingredients will provide the infusion with a warm, aromatic flavor.
Step 3: Heat the Water
Pour 500 ml of drinking water into a small saucepan.
Bring the water to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat.
Avoid allowing the water to evaporate excessively.
Step 4: Add the Cinnamon
Place the cinnamon stick into the hot water.
Allow it to simmer gently for approximately 5 minutes.
This helps release the cinnamon’s aroma and flavor into the water.
Step 5: Add the Garlic and Oregano
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Add the crushed garlic and dried oregano.
If you are using ginger, add it at this stage as well.
Cover the saucepan and allow the ingredients to steep for approximately 5–10 minutes.
Do not assume that steeping the ingredients extracts a medically effective dose of their active compounds.
Step 6: Strain the Infusion
