Eleven years of marriage ended on the morning of a positive test – America Focus
The white paper on the examination table tore with a sharp rip when I shifted my weight. Dr. Janice did not look up from her desk, where she was sealing a blue plastic tube with a yellow biohazard sticker. Outside the narrow window of the clinic, the morning sun was just starting to cut through the heavy gray clouds of early October.
“The lab ran it twice, Madeline,” she said.

“We need to monitor your blood pressure closely given your history,” Dr. Janice said, tapping the desk with her silver pen. “I want you back here next week.”
“I can do next week,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “I will do whatever you say.”
“Your pressure is slightly elevated today, likely from the stress of waiting,” she said. “I need you to avoid any emotional shocks, Madeline.”
“I will,” I said, holding the blue folder against my chest. “Ryan has been waiting for this for so long. This is going to change everything.”
