PART 2 — THE DOORS LOCKED
The laughter died almost instantly.
Dustin stepped through the cage door.
“You really think you’re going to scare me?”
I looked at him.
“No.”
His smile widened.
“I know exactly what you’re capable of.”
The coach folded his arms.
“Then you know you should leave.”
I glanced toward the gym entrance.
“No.”
The coach frowned.
I reached behind me and turned the deadbolt.
Click.
Everyone looked at the door.
Dustin laughed.
“You just locked yourself inside.”
“I locked everyone inside,” I replied.
His smile disappeared.
“I called the police before I came here.”
The coach’s expression changed.
“They’re already on their way.”
Dustin looked at the other fighters.
“Get him.”
Four men moved toward me.
I didn’t rush.
I didn’t shout.
I simply watched.
The first man grabbed my shoulder.
I shifted aside, broke his grip, and sent him stumbling into a padded wall.
The second swung wildly.
I stepped backward and let his momentum carry him past me.
He crashed into a bench.
The third tried to tackle me.
I redirected him toward the floor and immediately stepped away.
The fourth stopped.
He looked at his friends.
Then at me.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
He shook his head.
“Nothing.”
“Then come on.”
He didn’t.
Dustin’s face turned red.
“You’re all pathetic!”
He charged.
This time, I didn’t move away.
I caught his arm, turned him off balance, and forced him down onto the padded floor.
Not enough to seriously injure him.
Just enough to show him that the fight was over.
I leaned close.
“You hurt my daughter.”
Dustin spat beside my shoe.
“She belongs to me.”
I stood.
“No.”
I looked him directly in the eyes.
“She belongs to herself.”
PART 3 — THE RECORDING
The gym suddenly became quiet.
I walked toward the reception desk.
Dustin’s coach followed me.
“What are you doing?”
“Looking for the security recordings.”
He froze.
“There are no recordings.”
I smiled.
“That was your first mistake.”
I pulled out my phone.
The screen showed a message from Eleanor.
Police are three minutes away.
Then another message appeared.
Hospital records preserved.
And a third.
Evelyn told us everything.
Dustin saw the messages.
His confidence began disappearing.
“You set this up.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“You did.”
I opened the audio recording my daughter had given me.
Her voice filled the room.
“Please stop.”
Then Dustin’s voice:
“You’ll learn.”
His coach’s expression changed.
“Turn that off.”
I didn’t.
The recording continued.
Every threat.
Every insult.
Every time Dustin had told my daughter that nobody would believe her.
Nobody spoke.
When the recording ended, Dustin stared at the floor.
I said quietly:
“You thought she was alone.”
Then the gym doors shook.
Police.
“Open the door!”
Dustin looked at me.
“What did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything.”
I walked toward the entrance.
“You finally did.”
