How to Remove Set-In Grease Stains From Laundry

  • by

Set-in grease stains can be frustrating, especially when they have already gone through the washing machine and dryer. Ordinary detergent may remove surface dirt while leaving behind the oily residue that creates those dark, stubborn marks.

The good news is that many grease stains can still be treated at home. The key is to break down the oil before washing the garment again.

What You’ll Need

  • Liquid dishwashing soap
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • A soft toothbrush or soft cleaning brush
  • Warm water
  • A clean cloth or paper towel
  • Baking soda, optional

Before treating the entire garment, check its care label and test the cleaning method on a small, hidden area.

Step 1: Do Not Put the Garment in the Dryer
