This warming homemade drink combines several flavorful ingredients commonly used in traditional cooking and home remedies. Cinnamon, cloves, garlic, ginger, lemon, and onion provide aromatic compounds and antioxidants, making this a comforting beverage to enjoy as part of a balanced diet.
It should be viewed as a wellness drink, not a treatment or cure for diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, cholesterol problems, or other medical conditions.
Ingredients
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 4–5 whole cloves
- 2–3 garlic cloves, lightly crushed
- 1 small piece of fresh ginger, sliced
- ½ small onion, sliced
- ½ lemon, sliced
- 3 cups (700–750 ml) water
- 1 teaspoon honey, optional
How to Prepare It
1. Prepare the ingredients.
Wash the ginger, lemon, and onion. Slice the ginger and onion, and lightly crush the garlic cloves.
2. Add everything to a saucepan.
Place the cinnamon, cloves, garlic, ginger, onion, and lemon in the water.
3. Simmer.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for approximately 15 minutes.
4. Strain.
Remove from the heat and strain the liquid into a cup or glass.
5. Add honey if desired.
Allow it to cool slightly before adding honey. This is optional and can be omitted if you’re limiting added sugar.
6. Enjoy.
Drink it warm. Because the combination can be quite strong, you don’t need to consume large quantities.
What can you realistically expect?
The ingredients can contribute flavor and various plant compounds to your diet, but there is no good evidence that this particular drink can “detox” the body or replace medication. If you have diabetes, hypertension, or another medical condition, continue your prescribed treatment and discuss concentrated herbal preparations with your healthcare professional.
Simple, warming, flavorful—and best enjoyed as a food-based wellness drink rather than a miracle remedy.
